Does God Encourage You?

When learning about the prophetic the focus is almost always on others. We learn how to give prophetic words, we share pictures and visions and we generally try to encourage other believers.

How often do we turn the gift on ourselves and listen for what God is saying to us? Do you hear encouraging words from God the Father?

It struck me the other day that I did not have to rely on other believers to share God’s heart with me. Granted, it’s often very powerful and profound when it does happen that way, but it is not the only way to be encouraged.

In his book, God Secrets, Shawn Bolz shares the following:

Words of knowledge shouldn’t surface in random, miraculous occurrences. Instead, I encourage you to focus on this as a lifestyle of pursuing oneness with God. This gift connects you to His thoughts and the innermost depths of who He is!

Being connected to God’s thoughts is important for us. If we know His thoughts towards us then we are more secure in our identities and more resilient to the lies of the devil.

But there’s another reason why we need to keep up our spirits and stay encouraged. It’s not all about us. When God comforts us and we stay encouraged, then we can do the same for others.

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭1:4‬ ‭says:

“He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.”

We all face our ups and downs but we need to be able to encourage one another. If we were all down in the dumps what a miserable bunch of Christians we’d be. Imagine trying to spread the good news in that state!

If you are feeling a little down, spend some quiet time with God and specifically listen for what He is saying to you. As He lifts you, be on the look out for other people you could encourage too.

Love this! I must say I’ve definitely learned this in my own life – you can’t pour from an empty cup, and you also don’t need to wait on someone else to fill it, the Source is right there and we get to access it all the time! A great reminder for the holiday season!

Ah this is so cool, I really do agree!!

I have this game I play where I save a person’s name (someone I’m praying for – or trusting for a word for) in a note on my phone. Sometimes its more than one person on the list 🙂

Then I trust for a picture, just the picture – “I see a swan on a still lake…”
Then I leave it to come back to.
Then when I have some time again and pick it up again and pray about some more to add to the word for the person.

I had been doing this for about a year, when during a particularly trying time – I felt the Holy Spirit say – put your own name on the list!

This was exactly as you have described 🙂
I was so encouraged by the picture God gave me and I feel we need to do this often to stay plugged into what God is saying for ourselves!!

Thanks for sharing this important part of prophecy!
